"Sustainable" is on almost everything today, so here's briefly how we measure it. Four questions a gift should answer:

  • Where does it come from? Short supply chains and production that can be named. For us, that's a studio in Zurich.
  • What is it made of? With candles, this is the crucial question. Paraffin is a byproduct of petroleum refining – soy, rapeseed, and olive waxes are plant-based. We work with European soy wax and olive wax, plus cotton wicks.
  • Is it used up or kept? Both are good. Only the third option is bad: ending up in a drawer.
  • What's left over? Packaging that can be reused, instead of blister packs and plastic ribbons.

  • Packaging as part of the gift. A candle holder, a plate, or a vase can serve as a container – then no packaging is generated at all.

Regionally sourced food, refillable natural cosmetics, handmade items with known origins, and experiences instead of objects usually work well.
